Carrick and District Pool League: Champions Greenisland Galacticos put last week’s defeat behind them but they didn’t have it all their own way in close 8-6 win over Hit Men & Her. They got over the line thanks to hat-tricks from T. Whiteside & C Carson.
Table-toppers The Swift saw off Greenisland Working Men’s Club on a 10-4 scoreline. Paul Roberts’ men showed why they are still unbeaten, winning both sessions 5-2 with Rab Butler claiming a fine hat-trick. Kyle Kirkwood and James Merideth completed the job with well-taken braces.
In Whitehead, the Trojans had a night to forget as they lost 12-2 to Johnny Thompson’s Scorpions. The Whiteabbey lads won both sessions 6-1, with M. McIlvenny, D. Haddock, D. Whiteside and C. Rafferty pocketing two wins each.
The Teddy Bears emerged as 9-5 winners at Greenisland Colts. The home side, led by Harry Warwick, were behind by a single frame at the break. The second half, however, was a different matter as the Carrick lads took control.
Whitehead Spartans produced a second-half blitz to see off The Cowboys 8-6. Trailing 5-2 at the interval, Robert Hawkins’ men dug deep to win 6-1 in the second session.
Rathcoole team Eastway had a real match on their hands as they hosted Clare Roberts’ Warriors but they did enough to bag an 8-6 win.
In Doagh, Tyler McConnell’s Weapons defeated Mark Kitson’s Alpha side 8-6. The Weapons won the first session 5-2, but Alpha took four out of the first five of the second half to level the score at 6-6. Michael Higgins completed a fine hat-trick, aided by a Wayne Lewis brace. Best for Alpha: J. McComb (hat-trick); A. Carson 2/3.
