The Carrick and District Pool League returned this week with champions Galacticos playing host to stablemates Greenisland Working Men’s Club.
Sitting at three up, thanks to a quick-fire brace from Trevor Whiteside, it looked like it was going to be a routine day at the office for the Greenisland Galacticos. However, it wasn’t to be as Glen Burns’ men won the next five on the spin.
Derek Whiteside’s men rallied, claiming the next three to retake the lead 6-5, but the Greenisland lads took their chances well in the next three to edge to an 8-6 victory.
Leaders The Swift eased to an 11-3 win over Eastway. Rab Butler, Dee Irwin and James Meredith pocketed hat-tricks and Andy Arbuthnot landed a brace. Best for the visitors: D Flanagan 2/2.
Tyler McConnell’s Doagh Weapons defeated Clare Roberts’ Warriors 10-4. Wayne Lewis led the way with a well-taken hat-trick, followed up with a fine brace from John Barrons.
Greenisland Colts ran out 9-5 winners at Alpha. They took both sessions 5-2 and 4-3, helped by a hat-trick from D. McCandless. Alpha manager Mark Kitson recorded a hat-trick of his own.
Whitehead Spartans and Teddy Bears were both edged out 8-6 by Hitmen and Her and Whitehead Trojans respectively.
The Cowboys travelled to Johnny Thomson’s Scorpions for what was always going to be a tight match, and Hugh McMurtry’s lads took the first session 4-3.
However, the second half was a different matter as Scorpions’ Paul Kerr wrapped up another hat-trick. There was also a brace for Darren Whiteside to take the match 8-6.
Results: Swift 11-3 Eastway; Greenisland Galacticos 6-8 Greenisland WMSC; Whitehead Spartans 6-8 HM&H; Warriors 4-10 Doagh Weapons; Alpha 5-9 Greenisland Colts; Teddy Bears 8-6 Whitehead Trojans; Scorpions 8-6 Cowboys.
