Gareth Maybin has missed out on a European Tour card after he shot a final-round 71 in Qualifying School at PGA Catalunya Resort in Spain.
The 34-year-old was six shots off the pace of the coveted top 27, registering a 58th-place finish.
On Tuesday he gave himself a big opportunity to retain his Tour rights when he made the cut for the Q-School finals with a terrific five-under in Girona.
Opening rounds of 74, 71 and 72 had seen the former Larne Grammar pupil languishing in joint-92nd place. But in a remarkable two-under fourth round display which saw him land 10 birdies, a double-bogey and a triple-bogey, he jumped to a share of 54th spot.
However, he failed to build on that momentum and after six years in the same ranks as Europe’s elite golfers, faces the prospect of returning to the Challenge Tour.
