Newtownabbey golfer Tom McKibbin placed first in the recent Florida Junior International Championship which took place at Orange County National.

The 54-hole event, played over December 28 to 30, saw 11-year-old Tom card rounds of 73, 71, 75 over the three days.

The young junior’s win followed on from a recent second-place finish in the Junior Honda Classic, and fifth place in the US Kids Golf Holiday Classic both played at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida earlier in the month.

He competed against some of the top US and international juniors and bodes well for future of the young Ben Madigan pupil.

Tom’s other successes in 2013 include winning the US Kids Golf Ulster and Leinster Championship and being placed 18th in the US Kids Golf European Championships held at Gullaine, Scotland in May.

He also finished 26th in the US Kids Golf World championships in Pinehurst, North Carolina. He was second in the USSGA National Championships, the Florida Premier Junior Tour and the US Kids Golf Orlando tour, all held during July.
