COUNTY Antrim Harriers fielded three runners in Monday’s Belfast City Marathon, with Alan Briers, Bob Carson and Jonathan Turner turning out for the club in the Province’s premier 26.2-mile event.
Briers was first to reach the finish line in Ormeau Park after the gruelling race in a commendable 4:30, before Turner, who used the event as a training run, crossed in an impressive 4:32.
Next to finish was newcomer Bob Carson who was making his marathon debut and running for charity. Bob hit the 21-mile stage in just under 3:40, and was delighted to finish in a well-deserved 4:38.
Meanwhile, it’s congratulations to Louise Smart who tackled the 50k Lost Worlds Causeway Crossing Ultra Marathon on Saturday. Coming a mere three weeks after her 3:53 in Vienna, Louise completed her first ultra-distance race, which included off-road tracks, forest paths, glens, coastal cliff paths, bogs, beaches and headlands in an excellent 5:41:11, to claim sixth female and 26th overall.
Meanwhile, Grace Startin, Jacqueline Briers and Greg Hopkins were out at the Waterworks Park Run, finishing in 25:47pb, 26:21 and 27:53 respectively. Eileen Stewart was at the Ecos Park Run where she clocked 31:17.
