New home for Ballynure OB in 1990

Local football team Ballynure Old Boys moved ground in August, 1990.

The men from Newtownabbey had been playing at a farm on the Castletown Road in Ballyclare for a number of years, but the field they had been calling home was needed for a crop of potatoes.

After contacting the council, a pitch at Ballyearl Leisure Centre was made available to them for the 1990/91 season.

There were no showers at the new venue, but there were washing facilities and changing rooms for the home and away teams.

The groundsmen had also been kept busy in the build-up to the new season, with staff from the football team remarking that the pitch was “in good nick.” The Old Boys would go on to win an historic treble in the 2014/15 season.
