New slide at Valley Leisure Centre

The Valley Leisure Centre was closing for a number of weeks in December 1985 for the construction of a new slide in the swimming pool.

The huge water chute was to be the first of its kind in Northern Ireland.

The 73 metre long slide was bought by the council for £60,000.

It featured four jumps and seven curves.

It would pass from the pool, through the restaurant area and into the shallow end of the swimming pool. The pool was set to open again in the middle of January 1986, with the slide becoming operational at the end of January. Other general maintenance around the centre was set to take place while the centre was closed. Centre manager Victor Gatling was looking forward to the arrival of the chute.
