A councillor called for the council to take over the running of Housing Executive play areas in August 1988.

The call came following complaints about the play areas in Doagh and Old Mossley.

The parks in question were in Anderson Park in Doagh, and the Old Mossley estate.

After complaints were made to the Housing Executive, it was decided that any existing play areas were to be handed over to the council to run, and that no future play areas should be constructed by the Housing Executive.

That same week, there was a shock in the Ulster Cup when Ballyclare Comrades defeated Ballymena United.

The game at Dixon Park finished 1-0 to the home side, who had fielded eight new players for the game against the higher ranked opposition.
