Title-chasing Swift have to battle hard at Eastway

Carrick and District Pool League round-up: Champions-elect The Swift travelled to Eastway and had a more difficult evening than manager Paul Roberts expected, but they scraped over the line to win both sessions 4-3.

Greenisland Galacticos claimed the bragging rights over stablemates Greenisland WMSC with thanks to a 10-4 win.

Gary Johnston and John McClean did the damage in the first session on their way to well-taken hat-tricks. Paul Harris also chalked up a treble.

A full-strength Cowboys lost 9-5 at home to second-placed Scorpions. Despite Marty Goudie landing a hat-trick for the hosts, they couldn’t prevent defeat.

Third-placed Hitmen & Her lost on the same scoreline as they entertained Whitehead Spartans. They were 6-1 down at the break and despite giving it a go in the second half, the damage was done.

Elsewhere, Doagh Weapons won 8-6 at home to the Warriors, while Whitehead Trojans and Teddy Bears had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 7-7 draw.

Greenisland Colts and Alpha played out one of the longest matches of pool witnessed in the league in recent times. After three hours, Greenisland finally got over the line to claim an 8-6 success.
