Live music in Coleraine at the.... ‘Listening Post’

One local man has decided to bring back the idea.

Keith Millar is inviting you to the Listening Post, a fortnightly event in the University of Ulster which will bring live music back to the North Coast.

Keith explained: “Some years ago, the Cromore Halt in Portstewart used to host a night called the ‘Music Station’.

“It welcomed some of Northern Ireland’s best bands in what always proved to be a great night’s craic.

“Myself and my friend, Peter Vamos, wanted to bring the idea back, and that’s how the ‘Listening Post’ came about.”

Already bands from Belfast, Dublin, Portrush, Coleraine and Portstewart have shown an interest to play at the sessions, and Keith’s says that the event is proving so popular that slots are booked up until the summer.

“The idea is two-fold really, “ said Keith.

“It’s about bringing live music to the North Coast and enhancing the local music scene.

“Nowadays there are so many tribute acts touring local venues, but people really want live, original music.

“We have had a great response from bands from across the Province and to be honest our slots are pretty much booked up until the summer.”

Keith went on: “The next night, on Feburary 25, sees Belfast band ‘Master and Dog’ performing and after that local band Swurve will launch them album at the ‘Listening Post’ on March 11.”

The gigs all take place in the Senior Common Room at the University and admission is £5. Proceeds, after overheads, will be donated to Hearbeat NI.
