Luxuriate in the velvet tonesof ‘First Lady’ Ella Fitzgerald

Emerging as one of Northern Ireland’s most engaging and powerful jazz vocalists, Fiona Trotter returns to Portstewart this Thursday evening to celebrate the life and legacy of the unique Ella Fitzgerald.

On stage will be a five piece band with some of the finest musicians on the Irish Jazz scene, united around the irrepressible and uniquely talented John Trotter on piano, vocals and more.

The night will be focused on Fitzgerald’s unique vocal style and the well known favourites from the ‘Great American Song Book’ which earned her the acclaim to becoming “The First Lady of Song’.

Also dubbed the “Queen of Jazz” and “Lady Ella,” she was noted for her purity of tone, impeccable diction, phrasing and intonation, and a “horn-like” improvisational ability, particularly in her scat singing.

Expect some fireworks as Fiona takes the Ella songbook from a purr to a roar as she interprets a truly irresistible back catalogue. J

oining Fiona and John on stage will be Rohan Armstrong on bass, Rebecca Montgomery on drums, and additional special guest Linley Hamilton on trumpet.

The show takes place at 8pm on Thursday, October 16.

Tickets for the performance are priced at only £10, and the auditorium at Flowerfield will be laid out cabaret style, with tables and chairs.

Patrons are invited to bring their own bottle.

Flowerfield will provide soft drinks for designated drivers, and will provide wine glasses and corkscrews.
