Major dancing event next Friday

Next Friday, August 3, in the city’s Tower Hotel a showcase of Londonderry’s finest dancing and traditional music talent is set to enthral audiences.

The Siamsa Gael Irish Show is a collaboration of locally based artists who have performed competitively and professionally across the globe and truly offers something for everyone with an interest in Irish culture whether they are from home or visiting from abroad.

The Simasa Gael Dancers were founded by recently qualified Irish Dance teacher Arlene McLaughlin. One of the most successful dancers ever to hail from Londonderry, Arlene has six All-Ireland and eight Ulster Championship titles to her credit as well as a string of other major wins, including her native competition Feis Doire Colmcille. Given the attainment of that standard it is little surprise that Arlene has gathered a cast of champion performers who will deliver a show packed with energy and the physical beauty of Irish dance.

Of course dancers cannot perform without music and so a host of Londonderry’s finest traditional players including Ramon Ferguson, Ciaran Carlin, Ciaran McCafferty and Tommy Quigley will not only give a performance of the fast flowing traditional dance music but will change the mood with hauntingly slow airs making sure the evening will be one to remember.

Given that Siamsa translates from Gaelic to mean ‘a good time with friends’ the show also offers the audience the chance to take part in the evening by holding a ceili at the conclusion of the stage performance.

Tickets for the show are just £10 and are available from locations across the city including the Tower Hotel, the Derry Visitor and Convention Bureau on Foyle Street or by contacting Shaun McLaughlin on 07756233639.

The show is also available to book for weddings, corporate events or private functions. For further information please email [email protected] or call the mobile number above.
