TV presenter to make star appearance at Good Life event

TV cook and retired Lieutenant Colonel Dick Strawbridge is to make an appearance at the Good Life Festival later this month at a cost of £3,500.

The festival at Oxford Island is being run by Craigavon Borough Council and the former soldier turned TV presenter is the star guest.

Council received funding from Southern Organisation for Action in Rural areas (SOAR), the joint Committee and local action group for the Craigavon, Armagh and Newry & Mourne Council areas.

The Good Life Festival is a weekend event happening for the first time at the nature reserve.

It is expected to be a fun-filled and colourful day out for all the family where visitors will learn about self sufficiency. There will be exhibitors and demonstrators from green energy sources and bush crafts to growing your own and keeping chickens.

Dick Strawbridge is well known as an engineer and inventor as well as a cook and has strong leanings towards sustainable living and eco-technology.

The TV presenter ia also known for his ‘Scrapheap’ days, a TV programme which made interesting things from scrap.

He is also known for his BBC2 series on sustainable living, ‘It’s Not Easy Being Green’.

Over the last couple of years Dick has been involved in an exciting range of programmes and was a finalist in ‘Celebrity Masterchef’.

Most recently father and son team Dick and James Strawbridge sailed around the south coast of the UK, meeting local food producers and cooking together in ITV programme ‘Hungry Sailors’.

A spokesperson for Craigavon council confirmed that former soldier is the celebrity guest at the Festival.

“Council can confirm the payment to Factual Management is for high profile celebrity guest, Dick Strawbridge who will be appearing at the Good Life Festival, in Oxford Island National Nature Reserve on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28 from 10am-6pm.

“The costs are fully funded by SOAR. Mr Strawbridge is well known for his TV programmes, ‘Robot Wars’, ‘It’s Not Easy Being Green’ and his new show ‘Beat the Ancestors’ and will be a great attraction. It is anticipated that there will be a fantastic turnout to the Good Life Festival and further details will follow closer to the event.”

The Development Department of Craigavon Council sourced a SOAR grant aid of £38,500 to stage this event and the council is already contributing £27,500 through the arts budget.
