28 Ilex staff cost £1 million

STAFF at Ilex are taking home a combined total well over £1 million a year, with at least half a million pounds going to the nine employees in the top pay brackets.

The pay-scale of each of the 28 employees at the company tasked with Londonderry’s regeneration was revealed by the Office of First and Deputy First Ministers in response to questioning from a local MLA.

SDLP Assembly Member for Foyle, Pat Ramsey asked OFMDFM: “to detail the number of staff employed by Ilex, broken down by full-time; part-time; and retainer contracts; the salary bands; how many staff received bonuses in each of the last three years; and the total cost of the bonuses; and salaries.”

The response from Peter Robinson and Martin McGuiness’ office showed that in the financial year 2009/10 28 Ilex employees were paid a combined total of £1,043,505, followed by £1,308,729 for 2010/11 and £1,739,100 (draft) for 2011/12. The salary totals have not been adjusted to account for pension contributions.

The answer also detailed the salary bands of each of the employees, with one top earner taking home anywhere up to £205,000 for one year’s work at Ilex. Four staff are also in a salary grade which can range from £57,300 to £116,000.
