King of Queen

QUEEN tribute Band Flash Harry are celebrating 20 years of success since the band started in March 1992.

The band started just a few months after the legendary Freddie Mercury sadly passed in November 1991.

Harry Hamilton and John Cleland decided upon the idea of celebrating the music of Queen and joined up with another band from Portadown to perform a one off live show.

The band booked a night Lurgan Town Hall for the event and to their surprise it sold out.

They therefore decided to do a ‘few’ more shows and when they reached the level of playing the Ulster Hall they knew that the show was a success.

Harry said: “I never thought we would have the success of playing in America or playing big venues like the Waterfront and the Albert Hall.”

Over their career the band have played successful shows, toured the USA in 1998 and Dubai in 2000.

They have also performed at many Official International Queen Fan Club conventions and events and had the priviledge of playing with Freddie’s original band Ibex at a Queen convention in 2002.

The band have entertained thousands of people playing to sell-out audiences across Ireland and the UK.

They intend to produce a London version of their recent Queen spectacular, “Rocked up and Classical” where they combine a rock band, a full 64-piece orchestra and a 50-piece choir.

This particular show has been performed over the last three years at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast.

To carve a career of 20 years and sell more tickets now than at any time in their history proves that this band can deliver.

Flash Harry is made up of five musicians who all love the thrill of performing but they are not trying to recreate the exact perfomance of Queen - it is their own unique take on the classic rock bands music.

They are simply creating the excitement and energy of a live show and the audience loves this feeling as much as the band does.

On top of the success of the show the band intend on bringing their music a step further.

Harry stated: “We have just written our first couple of original songs.

“We hope to finish an album of original tracks for the end of the year.”

This includes a song called ‘Looking back’ among others which were on promo release for the Odyssey gig.
