When Coleraine five-year-old Zachary Wallace arrived downstairs one morning last week dressed in his school uniform, he inspired his dad Darran with an innovative fundraising idea.

Darran said: “When we have a non-uniform day in school we ask pupils to contribute a small amount to charity.”

“So I thought why not reverse the process and ‘wear our uniforms’ at home to raise money for our local NHS and care homes. So on May 29, we are asking that all school-age pupils in your house ‘wear their uniform!’
“Take a picture to post on our Facebook page. For child protection purposes, please don’t display your child’s name just their school name.
“Please donate a small amount using the just giving page! 100% of all money raised will go towards providing resources and equipment for our local NHS and care homes across Northern Ireland.”

Zachary’s mum Chloe said: “When I asked him why he was wearing his school uniform, he said that he missed school and that’s why he put on his uniform for our homeschooling session. And that just got his dad thinking.”
The idea is to:
• Register your school

• Wear your uniform on Friday, May 29

• Take a photo and post it on our Facebook event, representing your school

• Donate using the JustGiving page

Some other quirky ideas:

• Take a family register

• Make up a lunch box

• Use a school bag for the day
