Tommy’s ready to hit the road

HILL Croft School’s Tommy Young was among a number of school bus drivers who undertook a special NEELB training course ahead of the new term.

The North Eastern Education and Library Board’s in-house transport team provided the two-day training programme, which covered all aspects of the drivers’ responsibilities.

Seamus Duffy, the Board’s Pupil and Student Services Manager, presented certificates to the successful drivers at the conclusion of the course.

“The training we give them is a valuable addition to the driving skills they already have,” explained Uel McDowell, the Board’s Transport Officer.

“We cover child protection, pupil welfare, health and safety, hazard perception, manual handling, fuel and vehicle management as well as dealing with Board policies and structures. Good training is the key to ensure that a professional approach is adopted by the drivers,” he added.
