85 per cent of mental health homes in west

EIGHTY-FIVE per cent of the 26 residential care homes in Northern Ireland solely for people designated as mentally ill are located in the Western Trust (WHSCT), according to new statistics published by the Department of Health.

At March 2010, there were 26 residential homes providing 382 places across Northern Ireland. Twenty two (85 per cent) of the 26 homes and 299 (78 per cent) of the places were in the Western Trust.

The figures are contained in the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS) Adult Community Statistics 2009/10 published last week.

The Adult Community Statistics publication reports on activity data analysed by Programme of Care (POC) and HSC Trust. The publication includes trend data over the past five years.
