Bands lend support to ‘Songs for Joby’

Glengormley man Joby tragically lost his life when he fell into the River Lagan near the Odyssey complex in the early hours of January 26.

After four weeks, the 20-year-old’s body was located in the river by specialist search teams using expensive sonar equipment that had to be sourced from Mallow in County Cork.

The side scan sonar was donated to Mallow Search and Rescue by the O’Tuama family who lost their son in similar circumstances.

Joby’s family and friends are holding a series of events in a bid to raise enough money to supply similar equipment for use by the Community Rescue Service across Northern Ireland.

‘Songs For Joby’ will be held in The Stiff Kitten Bar at Bankmore Square, Belfast at 8pm on Friday, June 1.

Five Belfast-based bands - Runaway Go, Havana House Party, Amidships, Firebobbies and Cuba Sixty Six - have donated their time to play sets in aid of the Trust and also to raise awareness of Joby’s story.

Tickets are available on the door for a minimum donation of £6.
