Billy’s new book proves an ideal Christmas gift

Antrim Folk Tales, which depicts the rich heritage of myths and legends in Co Antrim, was launched in Larne Library recently.

Billy, originally from Ballycarry, teamed up with his long-time storytelling partner Kathleen O’Sullivan to co-write the book.

Speaking about the official launch, Kathleen told the Times: “It was a really lovely afternoon. Larne Mayor Maureen Morrow was in attendance, and we had family, friends and members of the public there to celebrate with us.”

Billy said the book has become a popular seller in book stores across the county.

He added: “Kathleen and myself got a surprise in the Belfast Waterstones, when we were asked to sign copies of the book.

“We keep being told it’s a particularly good Christmas present for men who can be hard to buy to. We got it out at a good time.”

There will be more launches and readings to come for Kathleen and Billy, including at the Linen Hall Library in Belfast in February and London later in the year.

Billy added: “We are loving it. People get a chance to see us perform some of our signature stories and hear about the tales in the book and then can take the stories away to read and share themselves.

“We think we’ve done a good job in representing the county. Feedback has been fantastic. It is especially satisfying to think of tourists taking the heart, soul and spirit of Antrim back to places all around the world.”
