Michael Madden of Madden & Finucane Solicitors said the Republic of Ireland’s state pathologist is to carry out a second autopsy on his body after an earlier Spanish post mortem examination concluded he had died from multiple organ failure.

Mr Madden told the News Letter that the second post mortem was taking place in Dublin as “the coroners office in Northern Ireland does not have the power to order a post mortem to be done because they don’t have jurisdiction”.

“That is the legislation,” he added.

Mr Drennan’s friends claimed he had been beaten by Spanish police after he was escorted from the plane on arriving in Ibiza.

His family said they want answers about his death.

Seven of his friends have made statements to the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

Superintendent Kevin Geddes said: “We are gathering any relevant information and speaking to any potential witnesses to assist in the investigation being carried out by Spanish police.”
