Carnlough creation is the scariest of them all

A scarecrow called the Carnlough Crab Catcher, made by a team of pupils from Carnlough Integrated Primary, picked up a bronze award at the Airtricity Garden Festival at Hillsborough Castle last weekend.

The award, which was presented to the school team at an awards presentation was for the scariest scarecrow category. The Carnlough Crab Catcher was in competition with over 20 other colourful characters, which were made by teams of school children from integrated primary schools throughout Northern Ireland. The Allianz Scarecrow Street competition is co-ordinated by the Integrated Education Fund.

The teams had spent weeks working on creating their scarecrow for the competition as well as for display in Allianz Scarecrow Street where they were living throughout the weekend at the Airtricity Garden Festival.

Sponsor Sharon McTaggart, operations manager, Allianz said: “The quality of the entries in this year’s Allianz Scarecrow Street was top class and we had great fun choosing the winners. The characters created by the children were so imaginative that it was quite difficult to choose which should win in each category.

“Congratulations to the school on their brilliant scarecrow. We are glad so many people came along to the festival throughout the weekend to meet each of the scarecrows in Allianz Scarecrow Street.”
