Celebrating Catholic Schools' Week in Ballycastle

This annual celebration of Catholic education raises awareness of the unique contribution Catholic schools make in the local community and to the lives of children who attend them.

Throughout the week students took part in a wide range of activities that explored the theme of ‘Challenged to proclaim God’s mercy.

The entire school community reflected on how they can best serve others as Jesus did and how they can become the face of God’s mercy in their daily actions.

Staff, students and the extended school community seek to promote justice and fairness at a domestic and international level and further develop the inclusiveness of our school.

The school has recently been awarded the ‘Inclusion Quality Mark, Centre of Excellence Award’.

Some of the highlights of the week were the Grandparents’ Day where grannies and grandfathers visited the school to learn about school environment of the present and tell the children what school was like in their day.

The Primary Five students put on an assembly to entertain the grandparents about the parable of the Prodigal Son and the entire school treated the grandparents to a selection of songs especially devoted to grandparents.

The Primary One students entertained their parents and family members with a story about St Brigid on the Feast of St Brigid and the entire school made St Brigid’s Crosses which were blessed at the closing assembly.

To conclude the celebration on Friday, the Primary Seven students closed the assembly with a prayer service and the Very Reverend Fr B Daly P.P. blessed the St Brigid’s Crosses that were made during the week and offered prayers and reflections.
