Centre Stage launches Junior Academy

CENTRE Stage Performing Arts Academy has once again teamed up with Links Youth Work Project in Lurgan to bring performing arts training to young people in the borough, only this time round its for KIDS aged eight to 13.

Starting on Saturday from 10.30am to 1pm and running right through to Christmas they will be offering workshops in various areas of the arts, which include Drama, Dance, Singing, Art and Poetry for kids aged 8-13. At the end of this series of workshops a final showcase will be held in December.

Director of Centre Stage Performing Arts Academy, Thomas Larkham, said: “ These workshops will give all the students the life skills they need in later life. I have designed some really simple programs for children, which will ease them into the arts.

"I don’t believe in handing a child a script and telling them to act. One - it's wrong to do that and the poor kid doesn’t know where to start, and two - how is the student leaning anything from just reading from a script. I strive to push all the boundaries with these sorts of things by breaking down the fear barriers and building on the student’s life skills.

Centre Stage Performing Arts Academy has an ethos, which is to 'provide the youth of today with the confidence for tomorrow' and I deliver all my work based on that ethos."

If your child is aged between eight and 13 and would be interested in joining Junior Centre Stage bring them along to Links underground Castle Lane (opposite new public toilets) this Saturday morning at 10.30 for a registration/introduction workshop. There is a small fee of 1.50 per week, which will cover the costs of any materials used for the workshops.
