Concern over Planning jobs

CONCERN amongst councillors over the redeployment of Planning Service staff in the Northern Division has prompted the Mayor to call for a monthly update on the issue in the chamber at Ardeevin by the Council's Chief Executive, Mrs Anne Donaghy.

Cllr Maurice Mills made the appeal at last Monday night’s September meeting of the local authority after it was confirmed by Mrs Donaghy that more than 30 local Planning Service staff would be affected by the changes within Planning Service.

She said that this included 13 in administration and around 22 in ‘professional/technical grades’.

Mrs Donaghy added that those affected in admin. had been informed while regarding the other 22 roles, volunteers had been sought for regrading to be redeployed across the Civil Service.

While Cllr James Henry asked for further detail on where exactly these jobs would be, Mrs Donaghy said she would respond in ‘Closed Council’, with members of the Press excluded.

Cllr Declan O’Loan added that while the situation for Planning Service personnel was “not ideal” for the people involved, he said: “At least there is a cushion so far as these staff are to be redeployed”.
