Councillor offers reassurance over care home plan

A GLENGORMLEY councillor has accused political opponents of "scaremongering" over a planning application to build a residential care facility in the area.

Alderman Nigel Hamilton contacted the Times this week to "set the record straight" about the plan to build an 80-bedroom residential care home on land at the junction of Church Road and Glebe Road East.

The Chairman of the council's Planning Committee claimed that some political representatives had been using "scare tactics" by suggesting that the proposed facility would be a unit for young people with drug problems. And he reassured people living in the area that he has received written assurances from the developer that the plan is for the provision of "a residential care home for the elderly."
