Crematoria ‘not viable’ in borough
The siting of a crematoria in Mid and East Antrim would not be viable, the local council’s Operational Committee has heard.
As part of a review of capacity within cemeteries, members sought information on the current usage within Belfast Crematorium and to consider if demand was sufficient to strategically locate such a facility within the borough.
Cremations in the north of the province numbered 529 last year; to be viable, a crematoria requires an annual throughput of 750, members heard.
