Arrests after seven bombs found in car

TWO men from the Mid-Ulster area were arrested on Tuesday after police found seven viable devices in a car close to Newmills.

The MAIL understands that seven pipe bombs were found in the vehicle after police stopped it at a checkpoint on the Mineveigh Road. Two men, both aged 40 and from the Coalisland area, were arrested at the scene and remain in custody.

The devices were made safe late on Tuesday evening by army technical officers.

Welcoming the arrests and bomb find, DUP Mid Ulster MLA Ian McCrea said: “I want to congratulate the Police for making these arrests and for stopping seven viable devices from reaching our streets.

“Dissident Republicans have nothing to offer only murder and mayhem and must not be allowed to deter us from moving Northern Ireland forward,” he said.

“It is important that these two dissidents and every other person involved are caught and locked away and I ask anyone with any information no matter how little to come forward to the Police to help remove these people from our society once and for all.”
