Ballyarnett device was viable

The security alert in Ballyarnett is now over and residents have been allowed to return home.

A reduced cordon is in place however and officers will continue to examine the scene in daylight.

Area Commander Chief Inspector Tony Callaghan said: “At this time we are not in a position to elaborate on the nature of the device but we can confirm it was viable and we believe it was capable of causing great harm and even of killing.
