Banbridge: two arrested as haul of cigarettes, vehicles, weapons and cash are seized

A large quantity of cigarettes, high end vehicles, money, weapons including a firearm and ammunition were among items seized during searches in the Banbridge area.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of offences including the possession of criminal property.

Detectives from the PSNI’s Organised Crime Branch, supported by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), were involved in the operation on Thursday.

Detective Sergeant Conlan said: “Officers conducted a number of searches at properties across the Banbridge area.

"A number of items including tens of thousands of cigarettes, high end vehicles, a sum of money, weapons, including a firearm, and ammunition were seized and have been removed for further forensic examination.

"Two men, aged 36 and 31, were arrested on suspicion of related offences, including possessing criminal property, and remain in custody at this time, assisting with enquiries as the investigation continues.”

Det Serg Conlan added: “Working with our partner agencies, we remain committed in our efforts to bring those who profit from criminality before the courts.
