Fined for assaulting police

A woman assaulted a police officer who was trying to search her for possessing drugs, Londonderry Magistrates Court has heard.

Gemma Maria Carberry (33), of Fergleen Park, admitted assaulting and resisting police on March 16.

Police went to a city centre bar after CCTV operators saw a man taking drugs. As police were searching this man, Carberry told officers he was ‘innocent’ and she intervened and narrowly avoided hitting one of the officers. She was fined a total of £200.
