Firearm found after security alert

A security alert in the Glenwood Green area of Dunmurry has ended after a firearm was discovered at the scene.

The firearm has been taken away for further forensic examination.

The PSNI Area Commander Chief Inspector Darrin Jones said: “Police would like to thank the residents for their patience following the disruption they had to endure during the early hours of this morning. We cannot take risks with the safety of the public and on this occasion a firearm has been removed from a residential area.

“It was fortunate that it was officers who discovered this weapon and not a child otherwise the results could well have been fatal.”

Police have asked anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious in the area or who has any information about the weapon is asked to contact them in Lisburn on 0845 600 8000.
