Over 120 new social homes for Mid-Ulster

A LOCAL MLA has welcomed news that Mid-Ulster is to benefit from 128 new social homes.

The news comes after Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland announced he plans to build a total of 4,600 new social homes across the province.

Welcoming the plans DUP Assembly member Ian McCrea said: “I welcome the announcement by the Social Development Minister and Party Colleague Nelson McCausland that he has set out The Social Housing Development Programme for 2012/13 to 2014/15 which plans to build 4,600 new homes for rent, using government funding of £268 million combined with match funding from the housing association. Work has already started to deliver the first 1,325 new homes this year. “

“This latest investment will see approximately 128 new builds in the Mid Ulster area which will mainly be aimed to support the housing needs of general families.”

Mr McCrea continued: “Current plans for houses to rent are to start 1,325 in 2012/13, 1,275 in 2013/14 and 2,000 in 2014/15. All will be delivered through the housing association movement under the direction of the Housing Executive.”

“This level of investment I trust will represent a boost for the local construction industry and nowhere needs it more than Mid Ulster. I trust that this latest announcement will go some way in alleviating the local social housing need.”
