Police warning amid phone scam

POLICE are warning householders of a potential telephone scam following incidents in the Banbridge and Craigavon areas.

Police have received reports from residents who had received phone calls claiming to represent a software company.

These calls stated the residents’ computers were experiencing problems - ranging from virus threats to out-of-date software - and claiming they would fix it for a set fee. The caller then asked for bank details and payment for new software.

Luckily none of the residents targeted provided any payment.

Police would encourage anyone who receives a call of this nature to hang up and contact police. Never give out your personal or bank details to an unsolicited caller. If a caller display is available, note the incoming number and give it to police- this will help trace the origin of the call. Police can be contacted on 0845 600 8000.
