A restricted driver caught doing almost twice her permitted speed has been banned from driving for two weeks and fined £150.

Niamh McShane (19), of Thames Court in Belfast, was detected doing 88mph at the M22 motorway - a 70mph zone - near Randalstown on September 14 this year. As an R driver she was restricted to 45mph.

Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, heard the defendant said she was running late for work in a new job.

District Judge Nigel Broderick said there had to be a driving ban as a deterrence to others.
