As part of class work on famous people, the children had created a wish list of 20 people they would like to Skype this term, which included Mary Berry, David Beckham, and Simon Cowell, and The Queen, who was the top choice.

Teacher Jayne Stewart said: “After sending off letters and e-mails, one letter did arrive last week and it was on headed notepaper from Balmoral Castle! A letter from The Queen! The class were so excited, as was I. She sent us lots of information on her animals and pets, as this was one of the things the children had written in their letter.

“The Queen said that ‘she was most touched that the children had chosen her as the person they would most like to Skype’. Unfortunately, due to her busy schedule, she would not be able to - but sent best wishes. We were so honoured that the Queen took the time to read the letter,” said Ms Stewart who added that the children all got a copy of the Royal response to take home.
