Dog rescued after falling 70ft at Giant’s Causeway

At 2.30pm on Saturday 20th June an off-duty member of the Coleraine Coastguard Team, who had been kayaking in the Causeway area, raised the alarm when he spotted two adults searching below the cliffs at Portmoon.

The couple were looking for a dog which had fallen approximately 70 feet from the cliff path above.

As concerns grew, not just for the missing dog, but also for the couple searching for it, the Coleraine and Ballycastle Coastguard Rescue teams were tasked to the scene.

After a brief search, the missing (and injured) black labrador was located and attended to by a local vet. It was then evacuated to safety by Coastguard personnel, along with the couple who had been looking for it.

This incident again serves as timely reminder to keep all dogs on a leash when near cliffs. It also underlines the importance of not putting yourself at risk while looking for a missing dog.
