Dromore youngsters all business in memory of little Emmet

News that a family friend and her daughter were taking part in the marathon to raise money in memory of Emmet Delaney spurred Megan (10) and Tara McCambley (8) and their cousin Holly (11) to make their own contribution.

With the help of some friends - Abby McCrossan, Ria and Ferne Dickson and Finlay Hooke - the trio, from Dromore’s Priory and Belfry area, got to work making and selling jewellery in aid of Emmet’s mum’s chosen charities - New Life Counselling, who helped the family come to terms with their loss, and the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice.

“They decided they wanted to do something to help,” said Holly’s mum Lesley. “They spent the weekend making and selling over 100 friendship bracelets to raise money to put in alongside the marathon runners’ funds.

“The girls set up a stall outside Megan and Tara’s house and designed fliers to advertise their cause. They sold the bracelets around The Priory, The Belfry, The Spires and Park Hill and took orders for bracelets in school.

“Tara also took the bracelets to a hockey tournament she was playing at in Lurgan and sold them in between her matches.

In no time the youngsters had raised £20, soon doubled to £40 and counting.

“In total,” said Lesley, “the girls raised £103.60 in memory of little Emmet, who was knocked down accidentally by his grandmother. Emmet’s mum, grandmother and brother ran in the marathon and Fun Run in Belfast and were joined by more than 300 friends and family and teachers, parents and puplis from Emmet’s school, St. Brides in Belfast.”

Lesley said friends and family were very proud of the girls and their friends for all their efforts, while Megan, Tara and Holly themselves thanked everyone who bought a bracelet from them and all those who donated money.
