DUP MPs welcome Minister’s commitmentto Causeway Hospital

During the meeting the Minister assured the MPs that there are no plans for closure of the facility.

  Commenting after the meeting Gregory Campbell MP said: “Given the massive range of tourism events that take place along the north coast, such as the North West 200, The Milk Cup and The Northern Ireland International Air Show, the retention of the Causeway Hospital’s range of services is essential not just to the local community but also the local economy.

“This area is Northern Ireland’s premier tourism region and we must ensure it has first class provision. We acknowledge that there is an ongoing review of hospital provision taking place.  We are encouraged by the answers received from the Minister that no plans are in place to rationalise services at the Causeway.  We will be playing a full part in the review and ensuring that the case for the Causeway Hospital is vigorously made.”

  North Antrim MP Ian Paisley continued: “The Causeway Hospital is a vital local facility, providing care to the people of the north coast region. I have met with the Minister in order to impress upon him the need to retain essential services like Accident and Emergency at the hospital. 

“It is important that healthcare standards are maintained for the community in the north coast region. I am pleased that during our meeting the Minister gave us an assurance that there are no plans to reduce the level of service provision at the hospital. The Causeway lies right in the heart of the North Coast.  The removal of the hospital would mean some people living in the area travelling over an hour to their nearest hospital.”
