Old appliances boosting charity

CRAIGAVON Borough Council has teamed up with Bryson Electrical Recycling to recycle and refurbish electrical household appliances.

This means that items such as fridges, freezers, cookers, dishwashers and washing machines from both Newline and Fairgreen Recycling Centres can be refurbished and sold online and through charity shops. All are covered with a six month guarantee.

This has been made possible through an agreement between Council and the European Recycling Platform (ERP) with Bryson Electrical Recycling who take the appliances away for refurbishment.

ERP is the producer compliance scheme managing Council’s Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) recycling service.

“We are delighted to be part of this very worthwhile scheme that helps divert domestic electrical waste from landfill while at the same time producing affordable electrical items,” commented Councillor Johnny McGibbon, Chair of the Environmental Services Committee.

“A lot of the appliances that people leave at our Recycling Centres can be salvaged and it is great that Bryson Electrical Recycling has the expertise to do this. It also gives people a fantastic option of buying a fully refurbished second hand appliance at a reasonable price complete with guarantee – something that is very much appreciated in this current economic climate.”

Elaine Coleman from Bryson Electrical Recycling explained the process: “All appliances are put through a vigorous refurbishment and testing process by qualified electrical engineers to make sure the appliances meet all the requirements they need to. On top of this the six months warranty gives people peace of mind when they are buying a second hand product.”
