Exquisite strike ends

THE strike which shut down Exquisite Fabrics on the Portadown Road for three weeks ended in October 1978.

A settlement was finally reached on the Monday after the meeting had ended in deadlock following an all day session the previous Thursday.

The Labour Relations Agency, the mens’ union and management representatives were involved in the talks.

The new agreement was presented to the strikers outside the company’s warehouse in Portadown.

On a show of hands they decided to accept the agreement and return to work.

Production at the Lurgan factory was at a standstill for over three weeks after the strike was originally sparked off in the final examination department.
