Free Irish language course in Mid-Ulster

The one-day course is offered in local libraries; beginners in Cookstown, improvers in Coalisland and advanced learners in Dungannon.

The launch of the progamme for the 2014-15 academic year of Irish Language classes takes place on Monday 15th September in Cookstown’s Burnavon Centre at 7pm. Tutors will be on hand to answer questions and there will be a presentation about the sound system of Irish by the Irish Language Development Officer, Séamus Kilpatrick. A series of classes for improvers will be held on Tuesday mornings. They will last for 10 weeks until the start of December and cost £30.

Also in the Burnavon, the University of Ulster’s Diploma in the Irish Language for the 2014-15 academic year begins on Monday 22nd September. Classes are on Monday and Wednesday evenings between 6.00pm and 8.50pm.

Support classes for secondary students taking their GCSE examination in summer 2015 will be held in the Burnavon on Tuesday afternoons between 4.30pm and 6.00pm. This series of classes will begin on Tuesday, 11th November.

Adult conversation classes in Cookstown, Dungannon and Coalisland will be held in the local Irish-medium schools, Gaelscoil Eoghain, Gaelscoil Aodha Rua and Gaelscoil Uí Néill.

An Carn, just outside Maghera, offers a full range of Irish language classes throughout the year and is part of the DCAL network, offering the one-day intensive Irish language course on Saturday, September 13th.
