Further traffic calming needed in Ballintoy - McShane

SINN Féin councillor in Ballintoy, Cara McShane, has called on Roads Service to introduce further traffic-calming measures following an incident in which she said a young child was involved in a collision with a vehicle in the village.

Cllr McShane said her thoughts were with the family and the young girl and added: “There is a necessity for traffic calming measures in Ballintoy village. While I appreciate Roads Service laid down red markers when I requested traffic calming several years ago, this has not acted as an effective deterrent. More needs to be done to keep Ballintoy safe.

“I am therefore requesting that Roads Service look again at installing traffic-calming measures in Ballintoy, in the form of heavily ribbed red stripes at either end of the entrances to the village. I have also asked them if more prominent signage could be erected reminding drivers that in the village itself a lower speed is necessary.”
