Gardening Club to host Spring Flower Show

This is the Club’s 29th show.

The show will feature thewide variety and colour range found in modern daffodil cultivars.

Anyone who thinks that all daffodils are yellow is in for a pleasant surprise.

As well as the expected yellow and white, shades of orange, red, pink, and green appear in recent daffodil introductions.

There are now classes for miniature daffodils as these have increased in popularity in recent years.

The show is supported by the top daffodil exhibitors of the province. With the show date falling in the middle of this years daffodil flowering season many of the best show daffodils should be on display.

As well as daffodils there are classes for other cut flowers, pot plants, cacti, succulents and floral art. Pot plants including primulas and cacti have been a feature of the show in recent years.

The floral art section shows how flowers can be arranged to maximum effect and provides a splash of colour in the hall.

While most visitors come to admire the floral displays many are attracted to the plant stall, which has become famous for bargains of a horticultural nature.

Visitors in the area may also like to take the opportunity to visit the Guy Wilson daffodil gardens at the University of Ulster, Coleraine.

These gardens are named in honour of Guy Wilson from Broughshane who was a famous daffodil breeder.

They contain 50,000 daffodils in over 500 varieties, which have been collected from all over the world.

The University no longer charges car parking

fees on Saturdays.
