Gillespie in appeal over Ahoghill play area

AHOGHILL Councillor Roy Gillespie has appealed for next year's rates estimates to include the upgrade of a play area in the village which has been dogged by anti-social behaviour for some time.

Making his plea at last Monday night’s September Council meeting, Mr Gillespie pointed out that firm moves were being made by community activists to talk to local young people in a bid to stamp out the problems which have centred on the Ballymena Road play area in the past.

He said representatives of the local environmental improvement group had met with youngsters and “are keeping a really close eye on things”.

Deputy Town Clerk, Ronnie McBride said that given the hard work that had been done to improve Ahoghill in recent times, he was “delighted” to hear of such a development.

He added that senior council officers would make contact with Cllr Gillespie and other interested individuals in the village to discuss the way forward for the play area.
