June 6 is all set to be a very big day for Evie

FOURTEEN year old Evie Dornan is one of four pupils from Wallace High School selected to be a torchbearer when the Olympic Flame comes to Northern Ireland in June.

Evie was nominated for the honour by her netball club, Larkfield. She has been an enthusiastic member of the club for four years and was excited to learn she was one of the chosen few to receive the honour.

The Lisburn student was nominated by her club, not only for her commitment to the sport, but for her ongoing efforts to encourage people to play and enjoy sport.

“They thought I could encourage people to play sport,” she explained. “I am really passionate about it.”

Evie, who said she would be tuning in when the Olympics started, will be carrying the torch through Lisburn on June 6, which will be a big day for her in more ways than one.

“I will be carrying the torch on the same day I have my maths GCSE,” she explained. “I don’t know which will make me more nervous!

“I was so excited when I found out I had been chosen,” she added. “It really is a once in a lifetime experience.”
