Kearney meets with TransportNI over Hightown safety issues

He said: “I met with TransportNI and Hightown residents along with Cllr Michael Goodman concerning road safety issues raised with me and I am delighted to see progress towards addressing those issues.

“Over several months Sinn Féin has been taking representations from residents of Hightown in relation to the need for enhanced road safety measures to reflect the volume of traffic and pedestrian movement on the Hightown Road. I am glad to see that our latest engagement with TransportNI has delivered some progress for residents.

“TransportNI has now agreed initiatives to address traffic speeds and pedestrian safety. These include a speed survey which will monitor traffic flows and record speeds on the Hightown Road. This will be reviewed by the PSNI to consider appropriate speed limits and enforcement.”

Mr Kearney added: “Our concerns regarding pedestrian safety have also been taken on board by TransportNI who will now begin an assessment for a formal pedestrian crossing in the vicinity of Gaelscoil Éanna and Hollybrook. In addition, a new pedestrian refuge island will be installed adjacent to Hollybrook to assist pedestrians wishing to cross the road at this location.
