Pavol Cunderlink (26), Dill Avenue, Lurgan, admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm on August 4 this year.

The court heard that at approximately 1.15am police found a male lying unconscious on William Street and door staff at a hotel said the person who carried out the assault had walked off in the direction of the Lough Road.

Cunderlink claimed he had ‘slapped’ the injured party after he had tried to take a cigarette from his mouth. The victim then fell and hit his head.

The public prosecutor added that the injured party had no recollection of what happened but CCTV showed the defendant punching the victim and there was no provocation.

District Judge, Mr Paul Copeland, adjourned the case until December 17 for a pre-sentence report.

Remanding the defendant on his own bail of £500 he told Cunderlink he had been convicted of a ‘violent offence’. A curfew and a ban on consuming alcohol were also imposed.
