Londonderry lags behind in allotment provision

LONDONDERRY is one of 11 local authority areas across Northern Ireland which provides public allotments but only 8,400 square metres are available in comparison to 44,109 in Belfast, for example.

Environment Minister Alex Attwood showed Carrickfergus (47,395), Belfast (44,109) and Lisburn (21,400) have the highest areas of allotments.

Londonderry, by comparison, has just 8,400 square metres, which is not much larger than Strabane (6,994 square metres).

The Minister outlined the information in response to an Assembly Question.
