Lurgan launch for book on Hooded Men

A second print run of the acclaimed book on '˜The Hooded Men' of which Lurgan man Gerry McKerr was one is to be launched in the town next week.

The newly revised edition, written by Monsignor Raymond Murray and Fr Denis Faul initially in the early 1970s, is to be officially launched in Lurgan on Friday July 1 at Clan na Gael GAA club Francis Street.

The book gives graphic accounts of each of the men’s experiences during the hooded treatment in 1971 while they were interned.

It also gives background information including the current legal position.

Lurgan is the central base for their campaign for justice and their case is being spearheaded by local man Jim McIlmurray.

The book will be available worldwide, there is already a lot of interest coming in from a number of countries.

The book launch is being brought to Lurgan by Jim McKerr, brother the late Gerry McKerr who suffered the hooded treatment in August 1971. The surviving men are challenging the alleged failure of the police, the Secretary of State, and the justice minister to investigate allegations that they were tortured.

Currently they are awaiting full disclosure of documents relating to the case by the Secretary of State Teresa Villiers. Case coordinator Mr McIlmurray has accused the Secretary of State of employing a delaying tactic

The hooded men will be present on the night to sign copies.
